Blue Rectangle in front of Cactus

Blue Rectangle in front of CactusWith the current temperatures being around -20°C to -30°C (from a European perspective: North Pole), I have more time to spend on painting. As I wrote in the last post Leave Grey … out of the picture, I returned to my exclamatory pattern and just finished Blue Rectangle in front of Cactus.

In this painting I weaved the paper stripes behind the main layer and cut them open. While I like the colourful background and the new stripe pattern, I still didn’t find the sweet spot between this pattern and a well balanced colour scheme yet. As the colourful background draws the eyes from the main layer, it appears pretty busy.

That’s why I want to work on my next study with a brighter painting and a settled colour scheme to make it the exclamatory pattern less disruptive.
